Volatility
Volatility is like a rollercoaster ride! It goes up and down-it twists and turns. That is kind of like what happens with volatility in the stock market. Let's break it down:
- Volatility measures how much something moves up or down.
- When a stock or market is volatile, its price can change quickly and unpredictably, like the ups and downs of a rollercoaster. It might go up one day and down the next, or jump around all over the place!
High volatility = Big movements! If a stock or market has high volatility, its price can change a lot in a short time. It is like a rollercoaster with steep drops and sharp turns! Low volatility = A smooth ride. If a stock or market has low volatility, it`s price does not change much, like a gentle rollercoaster with small hills and curves. Velocity
Velocity of a trade refers to the speed at which a trade is executed, or the speed at which a stock price moves. A low velocity means that the stock is moving slowly, but high velocity means that the stock is moving rapidly up or downward. Velocity of Money: Definition, Formula, and Examples VALUE-ADDED TAX (VAT) We have all seen the word VAT (Value-Added tax) on our slips or heard of it over our lives, but what actually is it? It is a tax on goods and services. When you buy something, you pay the price of the product, plus a small extra amount, which is the VAT. Here is how it works:
- Businesses charge VAT on their products or services
- They pay the VAT they have collected to the government
- The government uses this money to fund public services and infrastructure
There are three different VAT rates in South Africa:
- 0% (zero-rated) for essential items like basic food, medicine, and financial services 15% (standard rate) for most goods and services 20% (luxury rate) for high-end items like jewellery, cars, and alcohol
We have VAT to raise revenue for the government to fund public services and infrastructure as well as to encourage economic growth and development. What Is Value-Added Tax (VAT)?
Variable Cost
Imagine you are running a small business, like selling s'mores at a festival. You need to buy biscuits, chocolate and marshmallows for each s'more. The more packs you sell, the more ingredients you need to buy. The variable cost: Is an expense that changes depending on how much you produce or sell. In this case:
- Marshmallows, biscuits and chocolate costs change depending on how many s'mores you make.
- If you sell more s'mores, your costs go up.
- If you sell fewer s'mores, your costs go down.
Examples of Variable Costs:
- Fuel for a delivery truck (more deliveries = more fuel needed)
- Ingredients for a food business (more sales = more ingredients needed)
- Commission for salespeople (more sales = more commission paid)
Variable costs are like the ingredients in your s'more. You need to adjust the amount of ingredients based on how many s'mores you are making. Variable Cost: What It Is and How to Calculate
