  • 'Trading'
  • Short-term investing, also called active trading,

involves buying and selling investments hoping

  • to profit from quick price movements, often within seconds, days or weeks. It is different from buying and holding for the long term.
  • Instead of buying the stock itself, you could buy a derivative contract that lets you profit if the price goes up or down. Derivatives are financial contracts whose value is based on another asset, like a stock, index, currencies or bond.

They can be used for various purposes, but short-term traders often use them to make bets on price changes without buying the underlying asset itself.

  • Short-term investing and derivative trading are generally riskier than long-term investing.
  • They require more time, effort, and knowledge to be successful.
